Armies of Arcana Mega-Battle Report -
Back to main pageImages of the Temples
These temples were made from foamcore and styrafoam. Layers of foam core were cut and stacked to make the steps. The edges were coated with woodputty and sanded to be smooth. The marbling was achieve by tearing chunks out of sponges to get a spiky surface, and then dabbing these brushes lightly on the undercoated surface. It was sealed with Krylon Crystal Clear to give a thick layer of protecting and a high gloss (like marble).
The columns are common cake decorations. They have had magnets put in their tops, and small sheet metal squares are glued to the undersides of the roofs. This allows them to be quickly assembled, easily removed to reach under them, but still strong enough to resist getting knocked around without collapsing.
The bases and streets are all made of hardboard, painted white and then marbled.

Sun Temple - This was an very early temple I made, that got damaged and remade with the new marbling colors and detachable columns. The open roof lets the noon sun into the temple. There are various ornaments that go into it and on the corners, but they were left off so that more maneuver room was available to these large armies. |

Moon Temple - This was made with a large styrofoam ball, cut in half, coated with gesso, and painted liberally with pearly white acrylic paint. It also serves as a temple to Poseidon when my Marrians are on the field, I think he'd like a massive pearl temple. There is a pool that can go into the center, but it was left out so units could easily move through it. |

Life Temple - This was made with thick foamcore sides, which had arches cut into it from a template made from a nailfile. The cuts were made with a scroll-saw. The edges of the foamcore were covered with wood putty to smooth them out. 15mm Old Glory Romans were coated with pearly white paint, and glued into most of the arches. A few were left empty, because doorways to under the temple will eventually get put there. This also serves as a temple of War for my Marrians. |
