How to make modular cave terrain.
Below are some pictures of my first attempt at modular cave terrain. The goal of this was to make whole boards of terrain that could be placed on a table top, that could be connected in a wide variety of ways. They were meant to be representative (easy to play on), not realistic.
This is a table full of 6 individual boards:
I designed each board to have 3 sides with 5" passages which could be matched with any other board, and 1 side with a different opening that matched one other piece. The grey areas are passages, the black are impassable walls, blocking LOS.
The far back pair are connected by a chasm, with a very crappy "stone" bridge across it:
The left pair have 2 passages at different levels, connected to larger rooms with a "staircases" going up the sides. There is also a tunnel going under a passage:
The right pair is a large open room, with a raised ledge running along one side, connected by a bridge to a passage running down one side:
This terrain works very well with the Warband rules modification, several players have used it to play Chronopia as well. RaF units have trouble navigating the tunnels, but small skirmished units are OK. When the AoA Skirmish rules get posted, they will have been playtested on this.
